Affirmation – Protection – Community

LGBTQ+ Rights & Safety

Every person deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported in their community. In the Snoqualmie Valley, LGBTQ+ residents continue to face discrimination, safety concerns, and barriers to affirming care. The LGBTQ+ Rights & Safety Working Group is led by Stef Zandell from Reclaim, and brings partners together to advance equity, promote belonging, and ensure that LGBTQ+ community members can live openly and safely.

Our Purpose

This Working Group convenes service providers, educators, healthcare professionals, and LGBTQ+ leaders to identify gaps in services, document emerging challenges, and build pathways to safety and affirmation. We focus on strengthening access to supportive resources and ensuring that community institutions understand and uphold LGBTQ+ rights.

What We Do

  • Improve access to affirming health, mental health, and social services for LGBTQ+ residents.

  • Identify safety concerns and coordinate response strategies across local partners.

  • Provide supportive guidance and training to schools, youth programs, faith communities, and service organizations.

  • Advocate for policies and environments that protect LGBTQ+ rights and reduce discrimination.

  • Center LGBTQ+ voices to ensure programs and solutions reflect lived experiences.

  • Build shared understanding of inclusive language and how everyday words and assumptions can impact safety, dignity, and belonging.

Why It Matters

When LGBTQ+ people feel unsafe or unseen, their mental health, physical well-being, and ability to fully participate in community life suffer. By standing together and coordinating our efforts, we work to build a Valley where every LGBTQ+ person…youth, adults, and seniors alike…can thrive with dignity.

Our Vision

A Snoqualmie Valley where LGBTQ+ community members are safe, valued, and celebrated, and where belonging is possible everywhere.
